MOT Track & Check is designed with your privacy as our top priority. We only collect information necessary to provide MOT tracking services:

• Vehicle registration numbers you enter or scan
• Vehicle nicknames or labels you create
• Notification preferences and settings
• App preferences and customizations

Information Retrieved from Government Sources

• MOT test history from DVSA MOT History API
• Vehicle make, model, and year information
• MOT expiry dates and test results
• Test failure reasons and advisory notices
• Vehicle colour and fuel type (when available)

Information We Do NOT Collect

• Personal identification information
• Location data or GPS tracking
• Contacts, photos (except license plate scanning)
• Financial or payment information
• Browsing history or app usage analytics

2. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used exclusively to provide MOT tracking functionality:

• MOT Lookup: Vehicle registration numbers are sent to UK Government DVSA API for MOT data retrieval
• Local Storage: All retrieved MOT data is stored locally on your device
• Reminders: MOT expiry dates are used to schedule local notifications
• History Tracking: MOT test history is displayed and cached locally
• License Plate Scanning: Camera access is used only for reading registration numbers

3. Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

MOT Track & Check stores all user data locally on your device using React Native's AsyncStorage:

• Vehicle information and MOT history stored on device
• No cloud storage or remote servers for personal data
• Data is automatically deleted when you uninstall the app
• You have complete control over your data

Government Data Access

• Registration numbers are transmitted securely to DVSA MOT API over HTTPS
• API requests use official government endpoints
• No registration data is stored on our servers
• MOT data retrieved is cached locally for faster access

Data Security

• All API communications use HTTPS encryption
• Data is protected by your device's built-in security
• No personal data transmitted to third parties
• Regular security updates through app store updates

4. Third-Party Services

UK Government DVSA MOT API

MOT Track & Check accesses official UK government data:

• Vehicle registration numbers are sent to DVSA for MOT history lookup
• This is the same service used by the official government MOT check website
• No personal data is associated with these lookups

Google AdMob (Optional)

MOT Track & Check may include optional rewarded advertisements:

• AdMob may collect anonymous advertising identifiers
• No vehicle or MOT data is shared with advertisers
• You can opt out of personalized ads in device settings
• Ads are completely optional and reward-based

No Other Third Parties

MOT Track & Check does not integrate with any other third-party services, social media platforms, or analytics tools.

5. Data Sharing

We do not share, sell, or distribute your personal data with anyone except for the following limited purposes:

• Government API Access: Vehicle registration numbers are sent to UK Government DVSA for MOT data retrieval
• No Other Sharing: No data sharing with third parties, advertisers, or marketing companies
• No Analytics: No usage tracking or behavioral analytics
• No Social Media: No integration with social media platforms

6. Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: View all your vehicle data and MOT history within the app
• Delete: Remove individual vehicles or clear all data using app settings
• Export: Export your vehicle data for backup purposes
• Control: All data stored locally with no remote access
• Uninstall: Complete data removal by uninstalling the app

7. Camera and Device Permissions

Camera Permission

MOT Track & Check requests camera access only for license plate scanning:

• Camera is used only to read vehicle registration numbers
• No photos are stored or transmitted
• Camera access is optional - you can manually enter registration numbers
• Permission can be revoked at any time in device settings

Notification Permission

Local notifications are used for MOT expiry reminders:

• Notifications are generated locally on your device
• No data is sent to notification services
• You can disable notifications in app or device settings

8. Children's Privacy

MOT Track & Check is intended for UK drivers who are 17 years or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

9. Changes to Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:

• Posting the new Privacy Policy on this page
• Updating the "Last updated" date
• In-app notifications for significant changes
• Email notification if you have provided contact information
